Our Gold Toe Metropolitan Over the Calf dress socks are made of 100% stretch nylon. Lightweight, durable, and they won't fade. USA/Imported. Gold Toe's company name was originally known as Great American Knitting Mills,which opened it's doors in Bally, PA during the early part of the 20th century. The two German immigrants understood the consumers desire to have hosiery that would be more durable. Great American fashioned a sock by sewing a gold reinforcing yarn in the toe. Soon the consumers were asking for the durable "sock with the gold toe." In 2002 Great American Knitting Mills changed their name to Gold Toe Brands, Inc. Their line has expanded to include men's dress socks, boys line and a women's line which includes tights. By using the finest yarns the heel and toes are reinforced. Okay socks..should have stuck with cotton. This my first pair of 100% nylon socks. The problem I have is that my feet cannot breathe in them. My socks are wet after a full day wearing them.
